Coryell Memorial Healthcare System (CMHS) laboratory has introduced a new molecular diagnostic testing platform which offers a comprehensive approach to disease prevention and infection control. This technology will enable our medical providers to identify and treat diseases much earlier than ever before. The system detects life threatening staph (MRSA) and other infections that can cause severe life-threatening conditions. The system will also be used for the detection of influenza A, B and influenza A subtype “H1N1”. Same-day patient consultation and treatment is possible for common bacterial infections and is capable of delivering accurate results while patients are still present in the clinic. “The availability of results in about an hour is especially important for patients presenting to the Emergency Room and in managing patients who may not return for treatment“, said Ron Pundt MT (ASCP), Director of Laboratory at CMHS.

The answers that doctors and patients need are not always available in time to make the best decisions. The new system has the ability to provide rapid and accurate results, enabling clinical decisions that can positively impact patient outcomes.
