Nursing Mission CMH nurses work in partnership with the
patient and other healthcare providers to promote maximum wellness
on a spiritual, mental, physical level with an emphasis on patient
safety and optimum health outcomes.
Core
Values:
Dignity
and respect
Mentoring and nurturing
Integrity and empowerment Nursing Leadership
CMH has several departments within the hospital
that are lead by nursing managers. These units include
Medical/Surgical, ICU and ER, and Surgery/Recovery. Nursing leadership
analyzes the potential impact of
regulatory requirements, policies, new processes and procedures, working
closely with staff and other departments to respond to these changes.
Opportunities to have a voice in decision making are encouraged and
welcomed.
Patient care delivery is built on team nursing and mentoring of new nurses from
novice to expert. The team composition varies by unit, specialty,
staffing and patient acuity. The central focus of the delivery is
teamwork and integration of the following core values: dignity and respect; mentoring and nurturing;
integrity and empowerment. Accreditation
Coryell Memorial Hospital is committed to quality care and
meeting quality standards. The facility has a long history of
accreditation through The Joint Commission. Nursing plays a large role
in promoting patient safety and the National Patient Safety Goals.Continuing Nursing Education
CMH has partnered with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (health.edu) to
provide contact hours to all our professional staff through the
internet. These services are provided free of charge to the staff. New contact hour sessions are
offered each year that cover a variety of topics that relate to clinical
practice as well as professional and managerial issues.
Tuition Reimbursement
To encourage professional development, CMH offers
up to 80% of tuition
reimbursement (up to $6000 per year). Tuition reimbursement assists employees
in obtaining education or training required for their positions and
supports employee advancement.
Reimbursement covers tuition, fees and books related to the education or
training at an accredited institution. Partnerships with Schools of Nursing
CMH
works closely with Central Texas College of Killeen and
McLennan Community College of
Waco to expand and enhance their nursing programs. Preceptor programs
are available to interested nurses who want to work with the college to
promote student nursing programs in the rural area.
Quality and Innovations
Healthland Electronic Medical Record
CMHS is dedicated to improving health information
management through the use of an electronic medical record system. Patient care and workflow is optimized and
more efficient with a centralized medical
record for each patient. A single medical record allows
accessibility to the entire
healthcare team regardless of location, creating an information flow that
improves patient safety.
Employee Safety
CMH recognizes the importance of protecting staff
from work related injury. Many steps have been taken that include
reducing
sharps injuries by using needleless systems wherever possible.
CMH is working aggressively to eliminate back
injuries associated with patient lifting. Special equipment is
available to assist staff in lifting. Beds have scales that allow
staff to weigh patients in the
bed. Nursing has been on the frontlines of reaching goals of zero
preventable staff injury.
The Employee Safety Program has been a successful program that rewards staff
for using safe lifting and environmental practices to prevent lost-time
work-related injuries. CMHS
provides each team of employees a $50.00 gift card of choice on a
bi-monthly basis if their team is
injury-free.
Patient Safety
CMH nurses are on the forefront of patient safety
and promoting best practice safety interventions. From the use of rapid
response teams to patient fall prevention, CMH nurses are putting into
practice processes that not only save lives but bring positive outcomes
to the families in our community.
Spirit of Excellence
An integral part of CMHS philosophy is holding to seven standards of excellence with a desire to
create an environment or culture where employees genuinely care about
and are supportive of each other. These standards are:
· Making a positive first impression
· Treat others as guests
· Develop “service recovery” skills
· Communicate effectively
· Serve others from a team-centered approach
· Project a positive attitude
· Be passionate about excellence
On a monthly basis, an employee chosen for best exemplifying these
standards is awarded $100. Our patients, visitors, vendors and staff all
have the opportunity to nominate that individual CMHS staff member who
makes a difference in contributing to the Spirit of Excellence at
Coryell Memorial. |
